why have we forgotten..?

I sometimes wonder why is it that humans need rules and regulations to keep on the right side of things.
Be it in a work environment, in a social environment, in  any environment.
It seems we do not know how to keep on the straight and narrow unless some sort of 'axe' be hanging over our heads, keeping us in check.
What is it about human nature that keeps trying those boundaries, pushing them further and harder, wanting to redefine them to suit the self.
What is it that makes humans blind that, by resorting to areas grey and extenuating circumstances, we are merely excusing a wrong.
Is it because we fear ourselves being caught, our loved ones being threatened with the heavy hand of justice for we aware of them dabbling in matters deviant from the norm.
Is it normal for humans to know not to adhere to a set of rules ever evolving with changes around one, ever evolving of behaviour acceptable or not.....what one may have been deemed wrong no longer such, for it has been integrated into society as a consistent happening, non  threatening to the existence and well being of self.
The fibre of morals, scruples, integrity, honour...forgotten concepts. There seems to be an attitude of acceptance when it comes to bullying, war-mongering, poverty, crassness of behaviour....a pronounced deliberate defamation of all that humans should be.
We fear WW III for we know, not much will remain, should such a cleansing take place....maybe zombies are not just the imagination of movie Directors and Writers...maybe these Directors and Writers are the Nostradamus of our future....in story form....warning us of our ways....yet we continue to eat away at anything that may remind us to halt before one goes too far.
I am not surprised that the movie houses are filled with movies about super heroes saving the day and giving humans another chance to live tomorrow and work toward a more peaceful future. A desperation to save us from ourselves.

What we forget, is that, we are those super heroes and that our future lies within us...

... why have we forgotten?
